Dried fruit compote

In many homes, dried fruit compote is a must-have drink served with Christmas Eve dinner and is eagerly enjoyed during the following festive days. A compote made from dried fruit is not only tasty and aromatic, but also offers many health benefits. Dried fruit is a valuable source of potassium. The compote helps regulate blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and it also has anti-inflammatory properties. A drink made from dried apples, pears, plums, apricots, and other commonly added fruits also has a great effect on digestion — so it’s worth remembering when the holiday table is full of treats we can’t resist! In fact, you can use your favorite dried fruit for the compote, e.g., figs or dates, as well as fruits like plums and apples that you can easily dry yourself in advance — with a food dehydrator. Just remember to match the amount of water to the amount of fruit — this will give the compote a pronounced flavor!

Recipe for Christmas Eve dried fruit compote

Preparation:

Place the dried fruit in a pot and cover with water. Add the sugar and, optionally, cinnamon, cloves and anise. Bring everything to a boil over low heat. Once the water comes to a boil — cook the fruit for about 10 minutes, until the fruit is soft but not falling apart. Set the finished compote aside for a few hours, or preferably overnight in the refrigerator. Then pour the compote into a pitcher or a jar with a tap and let it come to room temperature. Prepared this way, the compote is more aromatic and has a more pronounced flavor!

...because homemade is better!
