- For measuring sugar and estimating potential alcohol - a hydrometer handy for wine must and beer wort; range: 0 to 24°Blg.
- Shatterproof, easy-to-use test jar - a plastic sample cylinder; this practical measuring jar has a flat base for easy use.
- Clear, color-coded scale - printed on the float for easy reading of liquid density in degrees Balling (°Blg).
- Easy measurement - the device is extremely simple to use. Take a direct reading straight from the scale.
- Calibrated at 20–21°C.
A wine hydrometer (saccharometer) is an essential tool for quickly and accurately determining how much sugar is in wine must or beer wort. This hydrometer is graduated in degrees Balling (°Blg) - 1°Blg corresponds to approximately 10 g of sugar per 1 L of juice (must). The test jar used for measurement is made from practical, shatterproof plastic and has a flat base.
For your convenience, the recommended sugar ranges at each stage of winemaking are color-marked:
- Before fermentation begins, the sugar level should not exceed 22°Blg - pink zone.
- Right after adding additional sugar during fermentation, the hydrometer reading should not exceed 16°Blg - yellow zone.
- In the final stage of fermentation, readings for dry and semi-sweet wines should fall within the green zone.
This hydrometer also lets you indirectly determine the alcohol content in wine through simple calculations.
How to use:
To take a reading, fill the test jar with a small amount of liquid free of solids and gas bubbles. Use enough so the float rises freely without touching the sides. Read the sugar concentration at the top of the meniscus.
