Active coconut carbon, 1 kg, for 60 L, grain size 0,55 - 2,4 mm, adsorption activity >60%, for purification and correction of taste and odour of water and spirits.
The active coconut carbon comprises specially selected and steam-treated coconut shells that will allow you to neutralise and harmonise the taste and odour of your distillates. Due to its iodine value (>900 mg/g) and grain size (0,55 - 2,4 mm), the carbon has a large pore volume and therefore a high capacity to adsorb impurities that affect the colour, taste and odour of liquids. According to the tests, the use of active coconut carbon gives much better results than the same process carried out with stone carbon. Filtration in the column runs smoothly, the distillate flows evenly and fills the entire bed, and the end product has a standardised mild aroma and a gentle flavour with no yeasty odour. One 1000 g pack allows to filter up to 60 L of liquid. The product has a low ash content (< 3%), so that ash is not ‘washed out’ during the filtration process and does not contaminate or affect the taste of the liquids. Due to its versatile application, the carbon can also be used in horticulture, as the filter layer in pots and when preparing jar forests.
Essential features:
• Net weight 1 kg
• Grain size 0,55 - 2,4 mm
• Iodine value >900 mg/g
• Ash content <3%
• For 60 L of alcohol
• Mild flavour, no yeasty aroma
Directions for use:
Place the carbon on a strainer, pour hot water from a kettle, then place the carbon with the strainer under running tap water (approx. 20°C) and rinse the carbon for approx. 3 minutes turning it over, until the water passing through it is clear. Then leave the carbon for the remaining water to drain. After that, the carbon is ready to use. The principle of using active carbon is similar to that used in typical water filters. The flow time of 1 L of fluid through the bed should be at least 1 hour (the efficiency of adsorbing undesirable substances depends on the fluid contact time with the adsorbent). Alternatively, the active carbon can be placed in a nylon mesh and inserted directly into the container with the purified fluid for at least 6 hours. The water should be stirred regularly. The effectiveness of the carbon also depends on the temperature of the fluid. Increased temperatures are not conducive to adsorption - the optimum temperature for the absorption process is 10°C.
