How to use:
Cast iron cauldrons require seasoning prior to the first use.
To this end, the cauldron needs to be smeared thoroughly with oil, filled with water placed on a lit bonfire, closed, and left to cook for about 30 minutes. Afterwards, leave the cauldron to cool down. Meanwhile, wash its walls carefully with hot water using a cloth on a stick or a wooden ladle (Caution! The cauldron will be very hot!). Another method for seasoning the cauldron is pouring 1 L of oil into it and season it on fire for 30 minutes. During this process the oil will change its colour. Caution! While seasoning the cauldron using this method, never add more oil or any water to it! Meanwhile, the seasoning process should be kept under constant control and the cauldron should not be left unattended as oil may flow out from it and catch fire.
You can find more information on the methods of cauldron seasoning and preservation in one of our articles.
In order to maintain the cauldron properly, after each use it should be washed thoroughly and a teaspoon of edible oil should be spread on its inner surface. Never leave the cauldron empty over a heat source and never subject it to sudden changes in temperature. Cast iron is very vulnerable to major temperature differences.
The cauldron should be heated up gradually – if the temperature is too high, the cast iron will become brittle and may break. Hot cast iron must not be poured over with cold water. This will result in thermal shock and resulting breakage of the cauldron. It is also not recommended to use detergents for washing it. As it is made of cast iron, it is best to wash it with water only. It is allowed to use sand or salt to facilitate removing problematic soiling, rust stains or burns.
Caution!
Cast iron cookware is intended only for preparing food! They are not suitable for storing food!
