If you are planning to make homemade alcohol, you've come to the right place. Our 5 L glass demijohn in a plastic basket is suitable for beginners and for small batches.
Narrow-neck glass demijohn with a capacity of 5 L. Intended for fermenting wines, beers, meads, and tinctures/liqueurs. The removable plastic casing allows thorough cleaning of the demijohn while protecting the glass from breakage. The glass used to make the demijohns is thermal, non-tempered glass, certified for contact with foodstuffs. The advantages of glass demijohns are their high airtightness and the ability to “observe” the fermentation process. From a practical point of view, it is recommended to carry out the primary fermentation on the mash in a fermentation vessel, and then—after the first racking and pressing of the fruit—continue fermentation in the glass demijohn. Do not wash demijohns in hot water or subject them to sudden temperature changes (moving from a cold to a warm environment), as excessively high temperature could damage the glass. It is recommended to wash demijohns in lukewarm water with the addition of a solution such as potassium metabisulfite or Oxi Turbo.
Stoppers suitable for a 5 L demijohn:
- rubber stopper Ø 43/40 mm with a hole for a glass or plastic fermentation airlock (647043)
- rubber stopper with closure Ø 43 mm (647343)
- cork stoppers Ø 45/37 mm, without a hole, to seal the demijohn (652900)
- cap Ø 55 mm (647255)
- stopper/cap Ø 57 mm (647257).
Characteristics:
The glass used to make the demijohns has all certifications permitting contact with food products containing alcohol. It is thermally non-tempered glass.
Usage:
Do not subject the glass to abrupt thermal shocks, as too large a temperature difference may cause damage. Before use, it is recommended to keep the demijohn at room temperature for at least one hour. Do not fill the demijohn with water hotter than 50 °C. Washing the glass in lukewarm water with disinfectants such as potassium metabisulfite or Oxi Turbo is recommended.
Due to the high stresses occurring during vigorous fermentation, it is recommended to close the demijohn during this period with a less tight cotton plug, which helps prevent possible glass breakage.
Note:
Demijohn capacity 5 L ± 8%.
The price applies to 1 piece.
