Ginger is a beneficial root with many medicinal properties; it has antibacterial effects, supports circulation, warms you up, and even has a positive effect on the weight-loss process. However, not everyone may know that ginger is also a well-known aphrodisiac, so it can also be considered a plant associated… with love. Ginger perfectly enriches the flavor not only of winter tea—it also pairs wonderfully with homemade beer. So if you're a homebrewer and you're already bored with the taste of a traditional lager, this time enhance it with a ginger twist. If, on the other hand, home beer is still a mystery to you, check it out and see that it's not difficult at all! Start your first Ginger Beer Love together with your other half. It's a great idea for the upcoming Valentine's Day.

How to make ginger beer

Preparation:

Tip: Thoroughly wash and rinse all equipment used to make the beer, e.g., in a potassium metabisulfite solution to sanitize it.

Remove the yeast from under the lid of the Coopers Lager concentrate. Place the sealed cans of concentrate and extract in a vessel with hot water for 10 minutes to liquefy their contents.
In a large pot, heat 2-3 L of water, add the contents of the cans and stir thoroughly until dissolved.
Bring the mixture to a boil, then add the grated fresh ginger (the easiest way is to place the ginger in a hop bag). Boil for about 10 minutes.

Add the yeast to a glass of water at 25-28°C. Leave for 20-30 minutes to rehydrate.

Pour the cooled wort into the fermenter (container or carboy) and top up with lukewarm water to max. 20 L. Mix thoroughly.

When the temperature of the solution is between 21-27°C, pitch the prepared brewer's yeast and stir again for a few minutes to aerate the wort well.
Close the fermenter and fit an airlock half-filled with water. We recommend measuring the extract content in degrees Blg.

Ferment the beer for about 7-10 days until it reaches 0-2 Blg (check the sugar content with a hydrometer). If the hydrometer reading is at the level mentioned above, you can bottle the beer into bottles. To do this, add about 4 g of sugar or glucose to each 0.5 L bottle. Cap or screw the bottles and set aside to carbonate for about 3-4 weeks.
The beer reaches full flavor after 3-4 months, so it's worth waiting. It tastes best in the company of…
