Jars hold a variety of things inside. They can hold seasonings, including basic ones like salt and pepper. They can also hold sweets, cookies and breakfast cereals. During summertime, jars get filled with favourite vegetables and fruit, allowing us to enjoy their flavour also in winter.

Meanwhile, our grandmothers have proven to us that they are also excellent for storing meat. A tasty delicacy referred to as jar meat is meat with jelly, resembling canned meat. The consistency of pork shoulder from a jar is an excellent homemade processed meat for spreading on bread slices. Ground pork shoulder in a jar is very easy to prepare and the recipe for it calls for 3 ingredients only. Discover yourself the delicious flavour of this processed meat in a jar.

Preparation:

Cut them meat into large cubes, mix it with the seasoning (you can also add some salt to taste) and put it into a jar up to 3/4 of its volume. Close the jars tightly and move them to a pot after lining its bottom with a cloth. This will prevent the jars from breaking during heating of the pot bottom. Next, pour cold water into the pot (high enough to almost cover the jar lids) and cook the jars for 3 hours.

Remember to check the water level every once in a while – once it is significantly lower, add boiling water up to the height right below the jar lids. Using cold water might result in breakage of jars.

After 3 hours, turn off the heating and leave the jars to cool down on their own. After they have cooled down, move them to a refrigerator for 24 hours. After that time your jar meat will be ready!

This meat is perfect as a meat spread for sandwiches, but can also be eaten hot, served in its own gravy.
