Do you like beer? We have a proposition for you!

If you haven’t decided to start making beer at home yet, now is the best time. First of all, if you prepare your brew now, your beer will be ready for the May’s festivities. Secondly, the price of beer brewing extracts has never been so advantageous.

If, however, you already have prepared more than one beer using a brewkit and you would like to experiment, we recommend out recipes for the cold-hopped Coopers Draught beer.

Citra is one of the most aromatic American varieties of hops. It provides beer with an intense aroma of tropical fruit. By combining it with a floral note, a gentle flavour of hops and slightly bitter finishes of the Draught beer, you will create an interesting composition to be enjoyed during springtime grilling. We recommend it!

Preparation:

Tip: Wash and rinse thoroughly all the equipment used for making beer, e.g. by using potassium metabisulphite or Oxi Turbo.

Remove the yeast from under the concentrate lid. Put the closed cans with concentrate and extract into a container with hot water for 10 minutes in order to liquefy their content. Pour 2-3 L of hot water into a large pot, add the content of cans and stir thoroughly so that the ingredients dissolve properly. Add the yeast to a glass with water with temperature of 25-28℃. Leave them for 20-30 minutes to hydrate.

Add the cooled-down wort to the fermentation container or demijohn and top up with lukewarm water up to max. 20 L. Stir thoroughly. Once the temperature of the solution reaches 21-27°C, add the previously prepared brewer’s yeast and stir again for a few minutes.

Tip: The wort can be poured to the fermentation container from a certain height, which will result in proper aeration of the solution.

Close the fermentation container and install an airlock filled halfway with water. We recommended measuring the extract content in Blg degrees.

After 3-4 days of fermentation, add the scalded bag with 30 g portion of Citra hops into the batch – the cold hopping will start. After the fermentation is completed, remove the bag with hops. After rinsing it, you can use it for further production of beer.

Let the beer ferment for about 7-10 days until it achieves 0-2 Blg (check the sugar content using a sugar meter). If the sugar meter indications are within the range mentioned above, you can bottle the beer. To this end, add about 4 g of sugar or glucose into each bottle. Cap the bottles or close them with a screw cap and leave them to carbonate for about 3-4 weeks.

The beer will be best after 3-4 months.

We recommended tasting a bottle once in a while to discover when the flavour becomes the best 😊
