Recipe for a lentil sandwich spread
Preparation:
Rinse the lentils in a sieve, transfer them to a pot and cover with water. Cook with a small amount of salt. After about 10 minutes, when the lentils begin to fall apart, turn off the heat and leave them covered for another 10 minutes. Pour rapeseed oil into a frying pan. Sauté the onion in it, add salt and freshly ground black pepper. Cut the tomatoes into smaller pieces, add to the onion and sauté briefly. If the cooked lentils are too watery, drain them in a sieve. Transfer to the pot, add the onion, tomatoes, and 1/3 of a jar of tomato paste. Season with: a pinch of sugar, 1 teaspoon curry, 1 teaspoon turmeric, 1 teaspoon sweet paprika and 1 teaspoon hot paprika. Add smoked paprika and cayenne pepper to taste. Mix everything thoroughly and let it cool. If the spread is too dry, add a little oil from the tomatoes or olive oil. Then transfer the spread to jars.
