Caution!
Before first use, cast iron pots should be heat-treated.
For this purpose, lubricate the pot with oil, fill it with water and put it on the bonfire, cover the pot with the lid and cook the water for about 30 minutes. Afterwards, leave the pot to cool down, in the meantime wash carefully its walls with hot water, using a cloth on a stick or a wooden spoon (Caution! The pot will be very hot!). Another method to heat-treat the pot is to pour 1 L of oil into it and cook it for 30 minutes. The oil will change its colour during the process. Caution! Do not add more oil or water to the pot during the heat-treating process! The heat-treating process should be constantly monitored and the pot should not be left unattended, as oil may leak and catch fire.
For proper maintenance, before and after each use you should wash the pot thoroughly, and spread 1 teaspoon of cooking oil on its internal surface. Do not place an empty pot over the heat source and do not rapidly change the temperature of the dish. Cast iron is very sensitive to big differences of temperatures.
The pot should be warmed up gradually - if the temperature is too high, the cast iron will become fragile and may crack. Do not pour cold water on hot cast iron. This will cause a thermal shock and the pot will crack. Moreover, we do not recommend using detergents to wash the pot. It is best to clean the dish with only water, due to the cast iron that the product is made of. You can optionally add some sand or salt to remove problematic dirt, traces of rust or burns.
Caution! Cast iron cookware should only be used to prepare food! Do not use it to store food!
