Can the alcoholometer be used for liqueurs and wine?

The alcoholometer is intended only for measuring pure alcohol and its mixtures with water. The addition of sugar in any form, such as in liqueurs, wines and other flavored drinks, causes a significant measurement error. Sugar affects the density of the liquid, which in turn leads to overstated or understated results, making the measurement unreliable. Therefore, the alcoholometer is not suitable for checking the alcohol content in sweet homemade drinks.
