Hugin - the name of one of the ravens of Odin, the highest of the Aesir gods. Hugin means “Thought”, so do not think twice and choose this still.

The Hugin convex modular still is a new version featuring a pot with a convex lid, and revised container temperature readout location and column lagging.

Hugin modular still:

This modular distillation system was created in order to meet the requirements of the most demanding customers. Thanks to the applications of standardising connections and innovative system elements, this system can be used as a basis for configuring various types of stills. The modular assembly allows expansion or different arrangement of the system.

The new conical shape of the container lid allows for potential foaming of the batch or mash, without the risk of contamination of the column and its filling. The dome shape also increases the stability of the entire column, even with tall still, which also translates into increased stability of the entire distillation process. The new lid form is inspired by the classic 'swan-neck' alembics, providing an eye-pleasing detail.

Changing the position of the thermometer opening in the container gives you greater control over the temperature of the substance being cooked inside the pot - this is important not only in the distillation process but also when mashing grain, pasteurising or even heating food.

• 500 mm column connector - distiller module made of stainless steel.

It is a still module fitted to increase the height of the distillation column. Thanks to the mesh support, the connector acts as a catalytic filter, allowing the use of filling that increases the purity of the resulting distillate. The best effect is achieved with prismatic copper springs.

• Reflux - double helix module, made of stainless steel.

It performs the function of a dephlegmator – installed right below the distillation column head.

The module consists of two cooling mini-helices. By adjusting the water flow through the reflux, some of the vapours imbued with the most volatile ingredient are let into the main cooler. What becomes condensed in the “reflux” chamber is led to filling for repeated evaporation. This enables collecting distillate having the desired flavour and characterised by very high purity.

• Head - cooler with 2 sedimentation tanks – distiller module made of stainless steel, installed at the top of the distillation column. 

Clarifier functions:

- securing against penetration by foam or batch transfers from the tank to the distillate collected.

- collecting heavier fractions that are undesirable in the final product.

Sedimentation tanks also constitute a space where the repeated simple distillation takes place. Such a solution enables obtaining purer distillate, while at the same time reducing the water consumption in the cooler.
