It is a far simpler and less expensive method of liquor aging when compared to traditional aging in barrels. Oak wood flakes can be added either during fermentation or to a finished liquor.
Thanks to the addition of oak wood flakes, the liquor prepared will very quickly gain discernible oak wood notes, the aroma of vanilla and a deep dark amber colour. How to use:
Add the oak wood flakes to the liquor of choice in a dose of 4-10 g per 1 L of alcohol for a period of 3-6 weeks. It is worth to choose the specific time of contact between the flakes and the liquor individually, on the basis of tasting.
Once you consider the degree of concentration of aroma in liquor appropriate, remove the wood flakes and enjoy its noble flavour.
You can also pour 70% alcohol over the oak wood flakes and leave them for a few days of extraction. Then you can dose the resulting essence to the liquor of choice according to your preferences.
